Theo Orange Dark Chocolate

I’ve tasted and reviewed a few Theo chocolates in the past. It’s been a while, though. Revisiting a familiar friend is nice once in a while.

Theo is committed to making bean to bar, organic, and fair trade chocolates. According to their website, www.theochocolate.com, “chocolate can be made in a way that allows everyone in the bean to bar process to thrive.” This is what sets Theo apart from other artisan chocolate companies.

Tasting Theo Orange Dark Chocolate

Today’s bar is a delicious dark chocolate (70%) with orange. Orange and chocolate are one of my most favorite combinations. The Theo orange flavor is authentic and natural tasting. It’s not overpowering.

The chocolate is rich, nutty, and there’s a hint of vanilla and honey throughout. The cocoa notes are deep and intense yet come across in an even release. The finish has a brief burst of orange. I enjoyed the lingering orange and chocolate blended at the end.

Theo, just plain and simple, makes really good chocolate. Some dark chocolate bars with orange use bits of chewy orange peel and/or small slivers of almond. That’s good too, but It doesn’t bother me that the Theo bar uses orange essence. The smooth texture and mouthfeel without the interruptions of peel or almonds is nice too.

Jump on Theo’s website and take a look at their classic bar varieties, candies and their Beer Confection Collection! So much to try. There’s a new classic chocolate bar, Tumeric Spice. Guess I know what’s next on my list!

Dark chocolate is classicly a good source of magnesium. It was very disappointing to find this company’s orange 70% dark chocolate has absolutely NO magnesium in it?
