THEO Coconut 70% Dark Chocolate

Chocolate and coconut have always been a terrific twosome in my book.

However, milk chocolate and coconut have always been the more popular pairing, and it’s challenging to find what I feel is the ideal combination - coconut with dark chocolate. Luckily, Theo offers a 70% dark chocolate and coconut bar!

Coconuts grow in a tropical environment from coconut palm trees. American consumers are familiar eating the meat of the coconut when it is toasted and shredded. It adds a slightly sweet and creamy nuttiness to foods and desserts.

One cup of raw coconut meat contains over 280 calories, most of which come from fat. Many plant foods contain very little saturated fat, but coconut contains a large amount and is highly saturated.

For a long time, coconut oil was considered a “bad” fat but its reputation is turning. Research doesn’t go so far as to call it a “good” fat, but unlike other saturated fats that are made up of long chain fatty acids, coconut oil is a medium chain fatty acid.

That’s good news because medium chain fatty acids are broken down much faster in our bodies than long chain fatty acids. This means they don’t contribute to high cholesterol as much as the long chain fatty acids do.

The Theo coconut and dark chocolate bar is a near perfect balance of rich chocolaty and vanilla flavors from the 70% chocolate and the roasted nutty notes from the coconut.

The bar has abundant coconut, and while this makes for a strong coconut impact, it softens the chocolate (no snap) and helps it melt on your fingers. I don’t worry too much about a little chocolate on my fingers since I don’t really waste a lot of time eating it!

The Theo Coconut and Dark Chocolate bar melts in your mouth quickly, delivering more intense flavor at the beginning and creating a nice mouth-feel and texture all the way to end.

Delicious!

I bought a single 3 oz bar for $4.00 at a local store. At the time of posting this article, you can get a six-pack on Amazon for $17.99, saving $1 per bar.
