The Reggie! Bar

I bet there's at least one reader of this blog that enjoys an Oh, Henry! or Baby Ruth candy bar as a guilty pleasure. It has been said in baseball circles that such treats were named after home run hitters Henry Aaron and Babe Ruth.  (Whether baseball has it right is another story.)

Then there's the story of the Reggie! bar...

Reginald Martinez "Reggie" Jackson was born May 18, 1946. He was dubbed "Mr. October" due to his clutch hitting in the postseason. Jackson is an ex- American Major League Baseball right fielder, and he played for four different teams from the year 1967 to 1987. Currently, he's serving as a special advisor to the New York Yankees.

Deep-Fried Candy Bars

We often crave  something sweet and something that will appeal to our very keen and varying tastes.  Today I am talking about something that may seem unfamiliar or uncommon to you, and it might be just the thing you are looking for.  I am talking about deep-fried candy bars.  Yes, you read right, deep fried candy bars!

The usual batter some chefs or home cooks use for frying dishes like fried chicken, fish, meat, or sausages can also be used for frying these sweet treats. The candy bars must be thoroughly chilled before they undergo the process of being battered. This is done to ensure that the chocolate doesn't melt into a hot, fatty, sticky mess.

Butterfinger Cake Recipe

Everything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening, or so they say.  Butterfinger Cake can be cold hard (and yummy!) proof to that, but so be it. After all, it's not so bad to indulge once in a while in something that you know can't do your figure any good.

Butterfinger® is a candy bar made by Nestlé which has a crumbling and orange-colored center that can be compared to crisp caramel and peanut butter and it is covered in chocolatey coating. It has been around for decades and is a darling to many.

This cake recipe is such a guilty pleasure most especially to those who love Butterfinger candy bar per se.

Ritter Sport Chocolates

The Ritter-Sport chocolate company is located in Waldenbuch, Germany.  The company began in 1912 by founding members Alfred and Clara Ritter.

The now famous Ritter Square was born in 1932.  It was launched after the idea came to Clara to produce a square chocolate bar so that it “…fits into the pocket of every sports jacket, doesn’t break, and still weighs the same as a normal long bar of chocolate.”

In the U.S., you can buy the Ritter Sport in 100g bars or mini chocolates, which in my opinion, is the perfect size for tasting the different varieties.

Chocolate Covered Food On A Stick – Yum?

Food on a stick is a staple at many State Fairs.

And some of the food on a stick is deep-fried, frozen, and then covered in chocolate.

Yum?

My own state fair, the Wisconsin State Fair, is no different than any other in offering the unusual, the unique and the... weird (some would say gross)!

“Feel Good” Chocolate that Tastes Good Too

Seeds of Change says their chocolates are “a happy accident” that began as a mission to preserve organic and heirloom seeds from getting swept away by a progressive industrial agriculture.  Their appetite for change lead them directly to chocolate as part of their search for delicious organic food.

My first experience with Seeds of Change came from an organic dark chocolate orange and fig chocolate bar.  The fig flavor comes from fragrant, dried, and chewy pieces of fig; while the orange flavor comes from oil of orange.  The combination is remarkably delicious.  The texture is very unique because the fig not only offers the chewiness but also the crunch of tiny seeds.
