Chocolate Mint Brownies

Chocolate and mint never fails to make a good combination, whether it be used in drinks, candies, and so on. This time, we'll be using the choco-mint flavor in the treat we all love. Brownies!

Brownies can either be "cake-style" or "fudge-style." Cake-style is that with the consistency of a cake, only richer and denser. On the other hand, fudge-style, true to its name, is more like fudge than cake.

While sometimes used even in beauty products, mint is mostly utilized in the culinary department. It is often used in beverages, syrups, ice cream, and chocolate candies.

A Brief History of Brownies

The brownie, one of the most loved baked treat, was believed to be "invented" in America. Some references imply that brownies were originally made in New England at the beginning of the 20th century. Albeit the facts that it is basically cake-like and baked in a cake pan, brownies are considered as bar cookies rather than a cake.

Brownies can either be "cake-style" or "fudge-style”. Cake-style is that with the consistency of a cake, only richer and denser. On the other hand, fudge-style is more like, er, fudge than cake. It is the richer, denser, and creamier version of the brownie. What determines the style of brownie is the ratio of flour to chocolate and/or cocoa.

I hate to state the obvious but it’s apparent brownie derived its name from its dark brown color. But just like almost any food, the origin of the "brownie" is covered in myth. One of the legends told is that a chef added melted chocolate to biscuits by mistake. Another one states that a cook was baking a cake but didn't have enough flour and baked it anyway, thus, making a brownie.

Almost Fat Free Brownies

With all kinds of summer parties and other gatherings, it seems that it's really easy to over eat.

Wanting to enjoy all the good food, without the guilt, I found this recipe for almost fat free brownies.

This one uses a jar of prune baby food.  This is basically the substitute for the oil you would normally add.  Another substitution, if you have all the other ingredients handy and don't want to run out for pureed prunes, is apple sauce.

In fact, in many recipes you can replace some or all of the fat with apple sauce and get good results.  I have tried that with other brownie recipes and it works well, though the texture changes, sometimes resulting more fluffy cake-like texture than a dense brownie texture.

Best Chocolate Brownies

Brownies are one of the most popular all time favorite desserts. They are served almost everywhere. You will find them on the table at most parties, displayed on the tray at bakeries, and wrapped in special boxes at your local store.

Brownies are not only baked for the whole family to enjoy but they can also be considered as tasty gift items and give away on special occasion. They may not be as lavish as a multiple layered cake or as sophisticated as brulee, but the simplicity of brownies makes them special. A square of thick, rich, chocolate flavored brownie that softens in your mouth can definitely bring a taste of perfection!

Chocolate Honey Brownies

It's Spring!  Well, at least according to the calendar.  Here in Wisconsin we haven't felt much warmth in the air yet.

Last night on the weather forecast they showed frost and freeze warnings in states south of us.  While we were going to be colder, the weatherman said that since we haven't had enough of a warm-up there are no crops in danger, so no need for the warnings here.  🙂

On some of the days where the temperature has gone above 50° I've seen the bees out helping those Spring flowers.  They're ready for Spring too.  Perhaps this recipe for Chocolate Honey Brownies represents wishful thinking for warmer weather, but they sure sound good!

I love baking brownies on a cold, blustery day like today.  I love smelling the chocolate cooking in the oven; the way the brownies steam when I cut them in the pan; and the way the vanilla ice cream melts after I drop a scoop on the top.  Ah!

The complete experience should be shared with a loved one.
