Milk Chocolate Lovers Series, part 6: Ritter Sport Fine Milk Chocolate
Ritter Sport is a pretty familiar chocolate brand world-wide. That’s not surprising since they’ve been around for more than 100 years! Founded in 1912, the Ritter family has owned and operated the chocolate company, and today, selling chocolates in 100 countries around the globe.
As part of the current Milk Chocolate Lover’s blog series, I’m tasting Fine Milk Chocolate from their Classic line. This bar has a cacao percentage of 35 and is sourced from Ecuador.
About Ritter Sport Fine Milk Chocolate
I’ll start with the aromas of this delightful chocolate - butter and chocolate!
In fact, these aroma notes are the same as the flavors that hit me on my first bite; lots of buttery and chocolatey notes!
Many times people experience the aromas of a chocolate as very different from the flavors they taste. This is mainly due to volatile compounds that form during roasting.
These compounds waft away from the chocolate as airborne molecules and trigger olfactory sensations. Different compounds remained trapped among the chocolate, milk, and cocoa butter ingredients creating a unique flavor profile.
This Ritter Sport Fine Milk Chocolate bar is delicious. I love the creamy and very buttery flavors with delicate notes of caramel. The chocolate is intense with a slight dried fruit (apricot?) flavor and a honey and nutty finish. The texture is smooth and the chocolate melts evenly.
Just so you know, Ritter Sport offers two Classic milk chocolate varieties (I’m referring to ones without nuts or fillings). There’s the Classic Fine Milk Chocolate and the Classic Alpine Milk Chocolate.
The “Fine” indicates the high content of cacao and the fact that it’s premium Arriba from Ecuador. The “Alpine” indicates that the chocolate went through a traditional conching process that cooks the chocolate in a way to develop rich caramel and toffee flavors.
You can now buy Ritter Sport at many different grocery and department stores so there’s no excuse not to try one. Enjoy!
The selection at Amazon changes, so here's a link to the entire Ritter Sport line. Look for the selection that you would like to try.

This bar is not as sweet as other milk chocolate varieties from Ritter, but I still consider it sweet since I really prefer dark chocolate.
