Raaka First Nibs
April 30, 2020
Last week I started talking about the chocolates I’ve been eating during my time of “safer at home.” I hope you were able to find or make stuffed dates covered in chocolate. Or, if not, had something equally fruity and delicious (chocolate covered strawberries or apricots comes to mind!).
So, what am I eating today? Right now I’m enjoying the last of my First Nibs selection from Raaka.
If you’re not a Raaka insider, you might be lost here, so I’ll explain... I subscribed to Raaka Chocolate company’s chocolates of the month called First Nibs. Each month I receive three small batch, limited quantity dark chocolate bars shipped directly to my door.
So far this year, I’ve enjoyed Cranberry Oat Crunch, Sorrel Punch Swirl, Ginger Snap, Gooseberry Thyme, Nordic Berry Blend, Strawberry Coconut, Saffron Safflower (back side shown in the photo above), Vanilla Violet, and Rose Cardamom.
Three of them stand out for me even though all of them are really, really good. The 80% Tanzanian Strawberry & Coconut was super dark and super delicious. The right amount of sweetness from the strawberry and the nuttiness from the toasted coconut blended very well with the high percentage cacao.
The Vanilla Violet had subtle floral notes and great vanilla flavor. It’s not often I find a chocolate with floral notes – naturally occurring or added. The chocolate was in the perfect “sweet zone” by making it with a cocoa mass of 66%. Using cacao from Uganda, the base chocolate flavor was nutty with a hint of spice.
Keeping on a theme of floral and spice, the 70% Rose Cardamom is my current favorite. Oh. My. Goodness. All the flavors in this bar are soft and delicate and genuine. Loved it!
Pamper yourself and subscribe to Raaka. Right now. At the very least, indulge in a three pack before the weather heats up! Here's a 3-pack available from Amazon.
