Pets and Chocolates Together
July 17, 2012
When I was still a kid, I remember visiting my aunt just to see her dogs. And whenever I failed to swing by her place, I would just ask my father about how the dogs were doing. I always made him tell stories about them. It was funny how I always made him enumerate all their names as I was busy trying to memorize them one by one.
With that short story from my childhood alone, you can easily come up with a conclusion that I am into dogs. You are wrong, honey. I am not just into them, I am in love with them. I am truly, madly, deeply in love with dogs. I grew up with dogs around me. I dress them up like Barbie dolls, I run around with them like a real playmate. I sleep and eat with them like they are my own brothers and sisters. From then till now, it has been my lifelong dream to put up an animal shelter for the homeless ones.
This is why I appreciate Pet Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) so much whose mission is to give the animals a better place to live. For 50 years, they are one of the longest nonprofit organizations that provides shelter for abused dogs and cats. They nurse their injuries, feed their tummies and take good care of them, unconditionally. Once fully recovered, PAWS makes it a point to place these animals in adoptive homes with responsible and kind hearted owners. The noble group is not a standing income generating organization. They run using the power of volunteers and a low salary paid staff. Their activities involve a lot of fundraising to earn money, working in kennels, walking dogs and conducting lectures on proper pet care.
But with a leap of faith and strands of optimism, PAWS was named as the July 2012 beneficiary of Rescue Chocolate that donates 100 percent of its profits to their deserving recipient. Their name entails their goals. Rescue because they intend to earn in order to support animal groups and chocolate because they are able to do so by being a product line for kosher and vegan chocolates. Altogether, they sell products in catchy names like Peanut Butter Pit Bull, Pick Me, Foster-iffic and a whole lot more. Although it is known that chocolates are not advisable to be fed to animals, this movement of chocolates makes it really helpful for them.
At many points in my life, I almost wanted to adopt. It has been a crazy thought of mine every time I see a dog in the streets rummaging through a pile of garbage in order to find food. I always had that drive but I was never able to do it. Maybe because I was still young. I had more important priorities in life. But my hopes remain high, just like PAWS, that I keep dreaming for a brighter future for these animals. With the help of Rescue Chocolate, their road to success will be sweeter.
