Mother’s Day Chocolate Soda Drink

Wow! It’s May already? We’re almost halfway through the year and it feels like I just blinked, and four months already went by! Who's excited for Christmas?

With that realization, I’m sure you know that Mother’s Day is just around the corner and as a daughter I want to surprise my mom with something special. And yes, you guess that right, with chocolate!

Mother’s Day Chocolate Soda Drink

I usually give flowers every year, but within a few days I notice they’re wilted already and not that pretty anymore. Of course, it’s still a nice gesture! But this year I wanted to do something different… I want to do something special with her.

My mom doesn't drink alcohol, so I think this non-alcoholic chocolate soda drink is just perfect for her. But, if you prefer to enjoy alcoholic drinks with your mom then that's okay too! We can easily make an alcoholic variation of this recipe. 😉

Did I also mention you can make this drink dairy-free? Simply swap your usual milk with a plant-based one and that's it!

Whether you're going for a mother's day date at home or you just want to make her day special, this recipe is for you. It’s super easy to make at home and you can even customize them with whatever you want. Add espresso shots, alcohol, or fruity flavors (all the possibilities!). I’m getting too excited, so let’s start!

Mother’s Day Chocolate Soda Drink

What you need:

  • 1 cup your choice of milk (almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or whole milk)
  • 3 ounces 70% dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder
  • (Optional) 1 shots of chilled espresso or 2 tbsp of your chosen alcoholic beverage or 1 tsp chocolate syrup or even ice cream

What to do:

Mix everything (except sparkling water) in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Make sure chocolate has fully melted, then remove from heat and let cool for 3 minutes.

Transfer to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and do the shake for about 30 seconds.

Pour into 2 glasses and top with sparkling water. Add a shot of chilled espresso each glass if you want it caffeinated or 2 tbsp of your chosen alcoholic beverage for an alcoholic variation.

For toppings, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, sprinkle cocoa powder or chocolate syrup. And that's it! Ready to serve!

What do you think? Pretty easy, huh? I’m sure my mom will love these! And, what’s perfect is you can always do this on different occasions and share with friends.
