Mother’s Day Chocolate-Dipped Spoons

Wow! It’s May already? We’re almost halfway through the year and it feels like I just blinked, and four months already went by! Who else blames Covid?

With that realization, I’m sure you know that Mother’s Day is just around the corner and as a daughter I want to surprise my mom with something special. And yes, you guess that right, with chocolate!

Chocolate As A Gift

I usually give flowers every year, but within a few days I notice they’re wilted already and not that pretty anymore. Of course, it’s still a nice gesture! But this year I wanted to do something different… I want to create my gift for her!

I have a few ideas that some of you might have already done… like baking chocolate cupcakes and forming a bouquet using them? Or maybe baking a chocolate cake? The only problem is that I’m still only starting my baking journey, like I only baked cookies so far, and they are not good (Yikes). So, I wanted to do an easier one that I think will be more unique. For anyone who can’t bake (yet) or doesn’t have a lot of time on their hands, this one is for you!

The beautiful and unique chocolate-dipped spoons that we are going to make is perfect for an instant chocolate fix! You can eat them as is or stir them (pun intended) in a mug of milk, hot chocolate, tea or even coffee! It’s super easy to make at home and you can even customize them with whatever you want. Add sprinkles, nuts, flavors (all the possibilities!), and even coffee powder! I’m getting too excited, so let’s start!

Mother’s Day Chocolate-Dipped Spoons

What you need:

  • Spoons! Any kind of spoons, really. I used disposable wooden ones, just because our regular spoons aren’t pretty enough. Oh, and you can also use as many as you want depending on how much chocolate you have. (Side note: if you are going to send these as gifts, best to use disposable spoons! Unless of course, you are planning to send regular spoons as gifts then that would work too!)
  • High-quality chocolate: Whether its white, milk, or dark is totally up to you. You can also do all three kinds.
  • Toppings: Sprinkles, marshmallows, syrups, added flavors, coffee powders, candies, edible glitter, nuts, edible flowers, etc. The possibilities are endless here!
  • Parchment paper for cooling the chocolate covered spoons.
  • ½ teaspoon shortening (to get the chocolate to harden)

What to do:

Melt the chocolate in a microwave, saucepan, or double broiler. Stir frequently to avoid clumping. If it starts to clump or if it’s hard to melt, add ½ teaspoon of shortening.

Dip the spoons into the chocolate then place onto the parchment paper to cool. Or use a piping bag and drizzle chocolate into the spoon.

Before fully cooled, add all the toppings you want. Be creative!

Let the spoons cool until hardened and voila you are done! You can wrap these up and send as gifts or enjoy them with your mom when drinking your favorite hot drink.

Recipe Note: We used a shortening for this recipe to get the chocolate to harden, but did you know there is another way to do that and keep the chocolate pure and taste better? It’s a tempering technique! It “tempers” the chocolate so that it hardens at room temperature and doesn’t need to be refrigerated.

On the other hand, shortening is a “hard” fat so it makes the chocolate solid without the process of “tempering”. Cool right? Tempering is a technique that needs to be taught and is part of the CUO lesson program. Sign up using this link and upgrade your chocolatey knowledge!

What do you think? Pretty easy, huh? I’m sure my mom will love these! And, what’s perfect is you can always do this on different occasions and share with friends.

I’d love to see what kind of toppings and spoons you guys will make! Share yours on social media and tag me on Facebook and Twitter so I can check them out!

For a full Mother’s Day experience, why don’t you do this with your mom? I’m sure she will enjoy the decorating part. Happy Mother’s Day to all chocolate lover moms out there! You all are superheroes!
