Moser Roth 35% Ghana Milk Chocolate
January 25, 2016
This Moser Roth® 35% milk chocolate bar is made from 100% Ghanaian cacao.
It contains 5 milk chocolate squares, individually wrapped, adding up to slightly over 4 ounces (125 grams). Each bar is the perfect size for snacking, and is totally satisfying.
Although I’m a bittersweet chocolate fan, I like a good milk chocolate once in a while. This particular milk chocolate is what I call a ‘dark milk’ chocolate because it uses 35% cocoa liquor instead of the minimum required 10%.
The first thing I notice is the rich golden brown color. The aroma is sweet with a mixture of honey and caramel. The snap is firm but feels velvety smooth as it melts quickly in the mouth. I immediately taste brown sugar and toffee! Oooh… so nice.
Next comes the nutty, bold cocoa notes. The chocolate is there, right after the toffee fades. At the end... a hint of vanilla. The aftertaste is a lingering cooked milk flavor. Very pleasant!
The combination of brown sugar and toffee notes overpowers any subtle or delicate flavors, but the overall chocolate impact stands out.
The only thing that concerns me about this milk chocolate is that half way through the piece, my taste buds start to fatigue with the intense sweetness and strong dairy flavors.
For a fleeting second I thought I might save the rest of it for later, but this is chocolate for heaven’s sake. Why should I stop?
I poured myself a nice cup of Guatemalan coffee to tone down the potency. Never Give Up, Never Surrender!
