You can also modify this recipe to make it vegan and gluten-free! Enjoy this treat as a gift for your friends or serve during family gatherings using the recipe below.
Anyone with a soft spot for smooth and creamy dark chocolate truffles? I actually thought chocolate truffles are going to be so hard to make… like fancy gourmet level hard. But you know what? It’s the complete opposite! They are so easy to make plus you don’t need an oven or any fancy equipment. Just your hands and some creativity! Easy and delicious? Count me in!
With September almost gone and the holidays only a couple months away, this recipe is perfect for holiday treats. It’s so versatile since you can add any additional flavors that you want! Go ahead and get creative on your toppings by using a variety of flavors and colors.
Okay, so a bit of an introduction… Truffles are basically balls of chocolate ganache. You just need to combine chocolate and cream then roll the mixture into balls. But what’s exciting is choosing what toppings you want to roll them into.
The most basic one is cocoa powder. Or you could go crazy with just about anything you want! Colored sprinkles? Nuts? Chopped pistachios? More chocolate? Why not! You can also try peanut butter, Nutella, cinnamon, shredded coconut, crushed candy, or even dried berries. Or maybe combine different toppings. It’s totally up to you!
Aside from the toppings, you can also customize the flavors! Pure vanilla extract is the most commonly used, but you can also use peppermint, orange zest, strawberry extract, coconut rum or any other alcohol. Check out the recipe below.
Dark Chocolate Truffles Recipe What you need:
What to do: Put the finely chopped chocolate in a bowl, add the butter. Set aside. Over medium heat, bring the cream to a simmer. Do not boil. Then, pour over the chocolate. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Do not touch. This will help melt the chocolate smoothly. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until the chocolate has fully melted. Add the vanilla extract or alcohol, if using. Continue stirring until everything is smooth. Cover with plastic wrap then chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour or until firm. Remove from the fridge and scoop the mixture using a cookie scooper. In a silicone baking mat, or baking sheet lined with parchment paper, roll the scooped mixture into balls. You can lightly dust your hands with cocoa powder, or wear gloves, to avoid any sticky mess. Immediately coat the truffles into your chosen toppings after rolling. This is to avoid the mixture from drying out! But, in case this happens, just re-roll the mixture and form again into balls. Bonus tip: Keep your hands cold by running them under cold water to avoid softening the mixture. |
That’s it! You can serve this, eat on the spot, or send as lovely (and yummy) gifts.
That was easy, huh? These dark chocolate truffles can last up to a week when kept in an airtight container in the fridge. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months. Just defrost in the fridge overnight before consuming.
