Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Cashew

If you consider chocolate-coated peanuts to be a chocolate classic you’re not alone. They’ve been around a long time in chocolate shops and supermarkets.

As far as I know, the first commercially available chocolate-covered peanuts (at least in the U.S.), were Goobers. Goobers were first introduced in the States in 1925. The original chocolate manufacturer was the Blumenthal Chocolate Company. Nestlé acquired the brand in 1984.

I’m a classic chocolate lover, and I adore any kind of nut covered in chocolate. Actually, I’m a lover of the dark chocolate versions of the all classics...

I prefer dark chocolate-covered pretzels, dark chocolate-covered “turtles”, dark chocolate-covered peanuts and almonds and raisins. And the list goes on.

Dark Chocolate and Cashews

It’s no wonder I fell in love with dark chocolate-covered cashews. Right now I’m enjoying Ghirardelli brand Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Cashews. The cashews are huge and thickly coated in rich, dark chocolate with a thin and shiny confectioner’s glaze. The sea salt makes the chocolate pop with intensity, although sometimes the salt is overpowering.

The cashews have a sweet buttery, and delicate nutty taste, that pairs nicely with the soft, creamy cocoa notes in the coating.

Cashews, in spite of the high fat content, have health benefits galore. They contain monounsaturated fats that are considered heart-healthy.  They are high in anti-oxidants, and they also provide copper and magnesium for healthy bones.

Combine cashews and healthy dark chocolate and you’ve not only got a timeless classic but one that’s good for you, too!
