Free2B Sun Cups – Dark Chocolate
July 11, 2016
I found another absolutely delicious chocolate candy that is free of major allergens.
Dark Chocolate Sun Cups are made with roasted sunflower seed butter and covered in 60% dark chocolate.
In my opinion, sunflower seed butter is the best tasting peanut butter alternative. I’ve eaten sunflower seed butter for years and prefer it to soy nut butter or almond butter.
I’ve substituted sunflower seed butter for peanut butter in many dessert and smoothie recipes. I highly recommend you try it, even if you’re not allergic to peanut butter (I’m not), and you may find yourself replacing that jar of Skippy.
I won’t say that sun cups taste like peanut butter cups because they don’t. However, for my daughter and anyone else allergic to peanuts - these are REALLY close!
The Sun Cups are buttery, salty, and melt in your mouth. The dark chocolate is nicely intense but doesn’t overwhelm the sunflower seed butter.
The sweetness level is just right. The chocolate is smooth and has long-lasting cocoa notes that linger after the last swallow.
According to the Free2b website, www.free2bfoods.com, “all Free2b Food products are free from 7 of the top 8 food allergens. That means we are free from peanuts, tree nuts, wheat/gluten, soy, egg, fish, and shellfish as well as corn, coconut, sesame, mustard, and pea.” (In case you are curious the remaining top 8 allergen is dairy.)
In 2008, Free2b started work on a candy cup that could be enjoyed by peanut-allergic people. A short time later, the Sun Cups chocolate treat was created!
As long as we're talking about it, I should let you know there are health benefits to eating sunflower seed butter.
Sunflower seeds are a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E is one of the body's main fat-soluble antioxidants. Vitamin E neutralizes free radicals that damage cell membranes, and promotes aging. Vitamin E has been shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers and prevent cardiovascular disease.
With great flavor and health benefits, I give these dark chocolate sun cups a thumbs up!
