Dolfin Chocolat Noir – Oranges Amères

Did you know there is a museum dedicated to Chocolate? Yes, it exists!

It’s not well-known around the Midwest where I’m from but if you visit or live in Orlando, Florida, you will certainly hear about it. It caught my mom’s attention when she traveled to Orlando this past June for a family member’s graduation.

That makes twice this year she went to awesome chocolate places without me! First, there was her trip to Ritter Sport’s ChocoWorld in Berlin, Germany and then to the World of Chocolate Museum in Orlando, Florida. I’m so jealous.

The World of Chocolate Museum gives tours about the history of cacao and origins of chocolate. They have a sculpture area with about two dozen solid chocolate sculptures representing many of the world’s most notable attractions.

While you are there, you can learn how chocolate is made, and most importantly, enter the tasting room to sample some chocolates from around the world! To learn more, check out their website: www.wocorlando.com.

One of those “museum chocolates” found its way into my birthday gift bag. Mom didn’t forget about me as she traveled!

My Thoughts About Dolfin Chocolat Noir - Oranges Amères

Dolfin Chocolate Noir - Oranges AmèresMy birthday chocolate bar, Dolfin Chocolat Noir, is a Belgian 70% dark made with Bitter Orange. It is a small bar, only 30 grams or 1.058 ounces, but don’t let the size fool you. The cocoa notes are bold, and the orange flavor is very bright and tangy.

According to their website, www.dolfin.be, the oranges are Seville oranges from Spain.

Dolfin’s chocolates use fruits, spices, and even herbs and flowers to combine with traditional chocolate blends. Their chocolatiers skimp on fat and sugar by carefully crafting blends that naturally satisfy a sweet tooth.

I truly adore dark chocolate and orange. I think it’s one of the best combination flavors on the planet. While I enjoyed this bar very much, I did feel that the bitterness of the orange lingered a little too long at the end.

I much prefer the memory of my last bite to be a soft chocolate and orange fading finish, with neither flavor competing for my attention.

It is difficult to taste any subtle chocolate flavors in a bar that also includes orange, but I expect that. The goal in this situation is to have a tasting experience where the chocolate and orange are harmonious and agreeable together.

This chocolate bar pulled it off.
