Divvies Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar
June 6, 2016
I love finding chocolate bars that are free from most common allergens. I love it because then my food-allergic daughter is able to safely delight in what many of us take for granted - she can enjoy eating a chocolate bar when the craving hits.
Divvies is a company that makes their semi-sweet chocolate in a facility free from peanuts, nuts, egg, and dairy.
According to their website, www.divvies.com, Divvies creator and founder, Lori Sandler, started creating vegan and nut-free bakery items because her son Benjamin had so many food allergies.
The Sandler family knows there are many people with food allergies that would enjoy a ready-made treat, and chocolate is among those treats.
Divvies chocolates are made in a dedicated bakery that is peanut, tree nut, egg, milk, and gluten-free. They also conduct quality testing to lower the risk of any cross-contamination in their certified allergen-free ingredients.
One of the interesting aspects of this chocolate bar is that it is “made to share” by having the bars split and ready to “divvy up” into Mine and Yours.
The "mine half" being a two-thirds portion always amuses me! I understand the perspective, especially for kids. I mean, sharing is great, but does it need to be equal when it comes to chocolate?
I’m no longer a kid and I still practice that chocolate sharing philosophy!
These bars are reasonably priced at $3.50 a bar when you purchase from the website. (Unfortunately, I was taken as a sucker at the LaGuardia airport, and I paid $6.99!)
The Divvies semi-sweet chocolate bar has a pleasant chocolate aroma with soft fruity and subtle vanilla notes.
The texture is slightly gritty, like a chocolate chip, and slow to melt in the mouth.
The flavor profile is sweet, with strong cocoa notes and some nutty and vanilla flavors coming through the middle.
There’s still a lingering hint of vanilla at the end and no bitter notes at all.
The fruity aroma didn’t translate into the flavors I could pick up. I think the sweetness level covered up any fruity notes.
While I’m not a fan of chocolate with this much sweetness, it certainly appealed to my daughter. She made it disappear rather quickly. She ate all of YOURs, and most of MINE!
