Delish Mid Knight Dark Chocolate
June 27, 2016
Some years ago, Walgreens Co. started offering their own private-label line of snack items and chocolate bars called Delish brand.
I recently purchased Mid Knight, a 70% Premium German Dark Chocolate bar.
The bar is the same size, and has a look and feel similar to Lindt and Ghirardelli.
I was curious as to how the flavor would stand up against these two well-known brands, especially since the price was about half as much.
The chocolate is dark brown with aromas of earth and leather. There is also a hint of what I call “raw or baggy”
Quick Lesson: What Do I Mean By Baggy?
There is a smell to cocoa beans right before they go into a roaster. It's a combination of the burlap bag they were shipped in and the fresh, sour, fermented notes from being dried in the sun.
Sometimes I can taste these same notes in the flavor profile of a chocolate, but most of the time it's exclusively an aroma I pick up.
Back to the Delish Mid Knight Review
The chocolate itself is nutty and earthy.
There’s a hint of unidentified spice, toast, and maybe tobacco. It’s surprisingly low on fruity notes. It is a more complex mix of flavors than I anticipated.
The chocolate has a hard snap but melts in my mouth quickly.
Overall, it is a low key chocolate bar. It has a good, solid flavor, that seems to change and get a little more interesting the more you eat.
I wonder if this is a typical flavor profile for Delish German chocolate or will the next one I taste have a different set of complex flavors?

I like it better than Lindt and Ghirardelli.
