Dagoba Chai Chocolate Bar Review
April 27, 2015
I’m slowly making my way through the Dagoba line of chocolate bars. The varieties are quite diverse and, because of this, I find it challenging to come up with my favorite. That said, I’m extremely fond of several.
Two of my previous reviews (which have been available to our students), Lavender Blueberry Dark and Beaucoup Berries Dark, rank among my top choices. Now, joining this elite group, is the Chai Milk chocolate bar!
Chai spices are aromatic and strong, no matter what medium they reside in (tea, cakes, savory entrees), and chocolate is no different. Putting strong spices in chocolate can be risky because they may overwhelm a milk chocolate or they may clash with a bittersweet chocolate.
Many companies have been successful in using strong spices like ginger, cinnamon, and hot peppers by balancing the right percentage of cacao and using specific flavor profiles of the chocolate.
The chai chocolate bar is 37% cacao making this a little darker milk chocolate than is typical. The chocolaty notes along with the creamy/milky notes feels like you’re drinking a chai latte at your favorite café! The chai spices are blended with crystallized ginger bits that provide a great texture and mouth feel.
I think tea and chocolate are absolutely made for each other in a chocolate bar. Another of my favorite combinations is Earl Grey and 70% dark chocolate. Definitely add Dagoba Milk Chocolate Chai to your repertoire.
