Chocolate Beers to Taste and Love

Is there really anything that doesn't taste better with chocolate?

Beer is no different.

Inspired by our German friends, here's to a happy choc-toberfest! Who's with me?!

Chocolate beers use dark chocolate or cocoa to replace, or add to hops, creating a different and distinct taste that ranges from subtle to intense. Keeping the hops light allows the chocolate to really contribute to the beer's flavor, and makes for a less bitter brew.

In no particular order, these are some of the chocolate brews creating beer buzz around the country!

Young’s Double Chocolate Stout brewed in England is a rich, full-flavored stout with an indulgent taste that never becomes overly sweet.

Rise of Mayan Dog Chocolate Honey Stout by Thirsty Dog Brewing Company is a bittersweet, big, bold, black stout filled with old world and traditional Mayan spices, including honey and cocoa nibs.

Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout is brewed in Yorkshire, England with gently roasted organic chocolate malt and organic cocoa. All Samuel Smith’s beers are brewed solely from authentic natural ingredients without any chemical additives, raw material adjuncts, artificial sweeteners, coloring, flavors or preservatives.

    I absolutely love chocolate beer.

The Young’s Double Chocolate Stout is good, but I really think the Rogue Double Chocolate Stout is the best in its class that I’ve tasted to date. Would LOVE to try that Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout from Foothills, as I love anything with molasses in it and it sounds intriguing.
