Chocolate Statue of Benedict Cumberbatch Tempts UK Shoppers

A recent public polling named British film star, Benedict Cumberbatch the "dishiest" actor in England.

The star, whose rolls vary from Sherlock Holmes to Kahn in Star Trek, has now been immortalized in a life-size, fully edible sculpture made up of 500 bars of Belgian milk chocolate. Its name is Benedict "Chocobatch", of course.

The statue was made especially for the premiere of UKTV's new on-demand channel Drama, and took eight people 250 man hours and roughly 88 pounds of chocolate to create.

The stunt was put together by Taylor Herring, a buzz-worthy agency whose prior ideas have included a dripping-wet, 12-foot-tall Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, a realistic-looking polar bear strolling around London, and a huge Game of Thrones dragon skull that seemed to have washed up on a beach. The idea behind the statue wasn't only to create an edible version of the dreamy British actor, but to create a publicity stunt to promote UKTV's new channel Drama and their on demand service. They called it, The Chocolate Cumberbatch Temptation Experiment.

So, the statue was put on display at the Westfield Stratford shopping centre on Good Friday, with no glass case or security rope around it for protection, and a hidden camera installed nearby to catch any naughty nibblers.

I guess you'd say the experiment worked, because passers-by couldn't resist the temptation to lick and nibble at life-size "Chocobatch". The poor chocolate tribute was left in ruins, after people broke off his bow tie, nose, and some fingers for their own enjoyment.

The artists’ lead sculptor, Tim Simpson, says, “You can’t rush perfection. Benedict has such a distinctive look that it was a challenge but a pleasure, to recreate him in chocolate. A secret combination of methods ensured we got a great likeness - we’re sure his legions of fans will approve!” Source: TorontoSun.com
