Beautiful Giant Chocolate Easter Egg
March 27, 2015
Easter is just around the corner! Cadbury eggs may be most people's chocolate treat of choice, but have you ever seen a giant chocolate egg? Betty’s Chocolate creates 11 pounds of beautifully decorated chocolate eggs that stand almost two feet high.
Sadly for us here, Betty's Imperial Chocolate Easter Eggs are only available in the U.K. Luckily though, you can watch this video that showcases how the giant chocolate eggs are made.
You'll see a ton of melted Swiss chocolate. Then, the chocolate is hardened inside a giant half-egg-shaped mold, and eventually the two halves are sealed with more chocolate. Each of the flowers is piped and attached by hand.
What's called The Imperial Egg is a famously intricate Easter creation in the U.K. They are made to order for 200 English pounds, with over 5kg of Grand Cru Swiss chocolate in each egg.
The chocolate comes from noble grade Trinitario and Criollo cocoa beans, which Betty's ethically sources from Venezuela.
The chocolatiers making these darling eggs are using artisan skills that have been passed down from chocolatier to chocolatier since 1919. Each egg, with its delicately hand made sugar flowers takes up to two days to make.
